Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Siletz Tribal Human Resources Department to obtain, develop and train the most important resource the Tribe has – human resources. This department will provide service to Tribal programs and employment applicants in an efficient, respectful and helpful manner. It will assist employees with skill development to ensure quality services to Tribal members and personal growth of Tribal employees.

This position is responsible for assisting with monitoring and research, habitat conservation and restoration, and conservation based land acquisitions occurring within the Tribe's Natural Resource Department.

High school diploma or GED. Knowledge of: The safe operation of various motorized and non-motorized boats, safe operation of off road vehicles, along with the safe operation of power tools in order to perform the duties of the position. Experience in: Using power tools safely and effectively to perform work-related construction. Ability to: Operate and maintain motorized and non-motorized boats, canoes, kayaks, all-terrain vehicles, and small tractors in a safe and efficient manner. Work odd hours, including early mornings, late evenings and weekends as necessary to fulfill the sampling needs of the project. Work 16 hour shifts for 3 to 4 days in a row 2 to 3 times per year. Other: Be in good physical condition; be able to ascend and descend steep slopes, work in heavy brush and swampy conditions; be willing to perform strenuous physical labor including carrying 100 lb. backpacks and nets through forested, swamp and tidal lands; be able to snorkel in 35-85F salt and freshwater; be able to pull heavy seines through complex and uncomfortable aquatic environments; be able to lift adult fish 10-40 pounds while in awkward positions. Must be a well-organized self-starter with the ability to communicate effectively, work well with others as well as independently. Must possess a valid Oregon State driver's license, insurance and be eligible to drive a GSA vehicle.

Assist Biological Programs personnel with daily field sampling for a series of Natural Resources Department projects. Operation of an 18 ft V-hull, 16 ft drift boat, canoe, kayak; operation of all-terrain vehicles and small tractors, use of beach seines, pole seines, backpack electro-shockers, binoculars, automated cameras; snorkeling; water quality sampling, stream flow sampling; adult salmonid trap operation, smolt trap operation; fish, shellfish, mammal, bird, reptile and amphibian sampling and identification; sampling and review of video recordings of various species; sampling and review of audio recordings of various species; recording data and transferring it to a computer spreadsheet; hatchery maintenance; wet laboratory maintenance; basic carpentry; tractor operation; and landowner communication. Relative proportion of fieldwork and equipment maintenance work will vary by season.

All new employees will serve a six-month probationary period to enable the General Manger to determine their suitability as a tribal employee. After the six-month probation the employee will be evaluated of his/her performance and at that time it will be decided if the employee is entitled to a regular employee status.

Conditions of Employment:
