The Accounting Department’s function is to pay, post, receive, balance and reconcile the Tribal financial records. Occasionally an employee may be required to perform other duties that are not in their current job description.  The Accounting Department operates as a team in accomplishing all activities.


Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business and one year experience in full charge accounting –OR– an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.   Knowledge of:  A full charge computerized accounting system; Government Program contract and grants, preferred; Supervisory experience, preferred.  Ability to: Read and understand financial reports, preferred.  Other: Must be able to occasionally work weekends and evenings. Must have valid Oregon Drivers License and be eligible to drive a GSA Vehicle.


Supervise Accounts Payable Staff and occasionally act as departmental supervisor in Controller’s absence; Reconcile assigned General Ledger accounts.  Edit weekly Accounts Payable runs. Audit completed account reconciliations. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports as required for Tribal Council and Tribal Programs.  Prepare schedules and summaries as needed.  Assist with internal and annual audits and program reviews.  Review program expenditure reports and prepare adjusting entries. Provide expenditure reports to Program Staff as requested. Code and enter program budgets into the Accounting system.  Receive and provide receipts for cash, checks, and credit card payments. Maintain and reconcile the departmental petty cash fund.  Provide technical assistance regarding expenditure compliance in accordance with Tribal policies GAAP, and OMB regulations.  Provide technical assistance, new employee orientations, and training regarding accounting practices and policies. Issue purchase order numbers. Maintain Accounting files for grants and contracts and assign new program numbers as needed. Prepare and enter monthly indirect calculations. Draw funds from Grants and Contracts on a regular and timely basis.  Complete grant financial reports as required.  Other duties as assigned.

All new employees will serve a six-month probationary period to enable the General Manger to determine their suitability as a tribal employee. After the six-month probation the employee will be evaluated of his/her performance and at that time, it will be, decided if the employee is entitled to a regular employee status.
