Introduction:

The Mental Health Therapist provides counseling services, consultation, and support of the clinic and Behavioral Health patients.

Requirements:

Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling or Medical Social Work and Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or  Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and 3-years providing counseling services –OR– an equivalent licensure to the State of Oregon and ability to obtain Oregon licensure within 6-month of hire and 2-years providing counseling services. Knowledge of: Physiological, psychological, behavioral, and social variables of an array of mental health disorders. Current theories and practices in the area of treatment, prevention, aftercare therapy regarding mental health care for children and adults. Psychopathology and skill in diagnosing mental health disorders. Human growth and development psychodynamics and therapeutic techniques gained through formal and informal training. The dynamics and impact of family dysfunction, including abuse and neglect with or without alcohol & drug addiction. Psychotropic medications. Dynamics of mental health consultation. Experience in: Individual and family therapy. Ability to: Provide individual, family, and group therapy for children, teens, and adults. Effectively apply and implement current theories, practices in the area of mental health treatment. Interpret community culture, values, and structure and respond appropriately to develop trust and positive therapeutic relationships.

Duties:

Provides mental health services through one-on-one therapy, family therapy, or group therapy. Make referral to other mental health resources when indicated and in conjunction with Contract Health Services procedures. Review and make recommendation to Contract Health Gatekeepers committee regarding request for funding for mental health, alcohol, and drug treatment services. Works closely with Behavioral Health and Medical staff in interpreting and coordinating services to meet patient mental health needs. Provides consultation to other Tribal programs and staff for the development of comprehensive community mental health services. Participates in or facilitates training programs for staff and tribal projects as requested.  Training may cover stress reduction, suicide prevention, parenting,  treatment recovery processes, prevention , methods of treatment, youth and family issues,  crisis response, principles of patient confidentiality and other needs of staff and the community. Perform assistance, as assigned, related to grants concerning the provision of mental health services of the Mental Health 37 portion of the Oregon Health Authority Tribal Financial Assistance Agreement. Provides clinical supervision and file reviews, within specialty, as assigned for grant and other positions. Collaborates with Behavioral Health staff in providing adventure-based activities. Maintains Quality Assurance standard for Behavioral Health medical records, which includes participating in improvement processes and utilization of an electronic medical record system at the clinic and State of Oregon database.

All new employees will serve a six-month probationary period to enable the General Manger to determine their suitability as a tribal employee. After the six-month probation the employee will be evaluated of his/her performance and at that time, it will be, decided if the employee is entitled to a regular employee status.
